What is kulin nations?

The Kulin Nations is a term used to refer to the Aboriginal people who lived in the central part of the Victoria state of Australia, including the Melbourne area. The Kulin Nation is made up of several distinct tribal groups, including the Wurundjeri, Bunurong, Taungurong, Djadjawurrung, and Wathaurung. Each group had their own language and traditions but shared a common ancestry and culture.

These nations lived off the land and waterways, engaging in hunting, fishing, and gathering food. They used a range of tools and weapons made from natural materials like wood, bone, and stone.

In the early years of European settlement, many Kulin people were displaced from their traditional lands, and their way of life was disrupted. Despite this, many Kulin people have continued to preserve their culture and traditions, passing them down through generations.

Today, Kulin Nations people are actively involved in advocating for the rights of Indigenous people, promoting cultural awareness and understanding, and working to preserve their language and culture. The Kulin Nation continues to be an important part of the history and culture of Victoria and Australia as a whole.
